This is another recent release that I received from Thomas Nelson and Zondervan’s Fiction Guild. It was compared to John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars, and I could see the similarities.
WASRAS was originally written in Italian, which I thought was pretty neat. I’m really enjoying Thomas Nelson finding international bestsellers and translating them into English.
This is a high school love story between sixteen year old Leo and red-headed Beatrice. Leo falls for Beatrice but doesn’t know how to get her to notice him. I definitely noticed similarities to TFIOS, as it was a teenage romance that didn’t necessarily have a good view of God, the teens were unusually deep thinkers, and cancer and death are two heavy themes. The story itself was all right, albeit predictable, but I was pretty disappointed by how God was portrayed, since this was coming from Thomas Nelson. Otherwise, it’s a nice book to read by a cozy fire (which is exactly what I did).
Thank you to the Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction Guild for sending me a copy of this book to read and review. All opinions are my own and were not required to be positive.
