I want to share with you a goal I have for how I relate with people.
I want to be a person who loves those around me before they love me. It’s not a race, it’s a matter of loving them even if they aren’t loving me. It’s a matter of modeling what God did for me when He loved me first, when He loved me before I loved Him.
“We love each other because he loved us first.” — 1 John 4:19
Love with a quality love, a love that is patient, kind, does not boast, hopes all things, and endures all things.
“Love is large and incredibly patient. Love is gentle and consistently kind to all. It refuses to be jealous when blessing comes to someone else. Love does not brag about one’s achievements nor inflate its own importance. Love does not traffic in shame and disrespect, nor selfishly seek its own honor. Love is not easily irritated or quick to take offense. Love joyfully celebrates honesty and finds no delight in what is wrong. Love is a safe place of shelter, for it never stops believing the best for others. Love never takes failure as defeat, for it never gives up. Love never stops loving. It extends beyond the gift of prophecy, which eventually fades away. It is more enduring than tongues, which will one day fall silent. Love remains long after words of knowledge are forgotten.”
— 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 TPT
Love with God’s love inside of you. Love well.
Love, even when others don’t. Love, even with people throw it back in your face. Love anyway, no matter how they treat you, because you’re not loving them for them. You’re loving them for God.
“If someone says, “I love God,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see?” — 1 John 4:20
You’re loving people because you love God, so it doesn’t matter what people do to you because of what God has already done for you.
